Dear Briarwood Community,
My name is Clay Rogers, and I am honored to address you today as the new President of the Briarwood Civic Association (BCA). Two years ago, I was sworn in as Vice President of the BCA, and during that time, I have diligently fulfilled the duties outlined for the Vice President position.
Effective October 5, 2024, due to the sudden and unforeseen resignation of Mr. Bob Weiss, our previous President, I have been entrusted with the responsibilities of President of the Briarwood Civic Association.
I’d like to share a bit about myself. While a few people at the meeting two (2) years ago heard my story when I was voted into the role as VP, I recognize that our community is made up of 326 homes, and I look forward to getting to know each of you. It is truly an honor to serve such a wonderful neighborhood. I have deep family roots here in the Low Country. My wife, Molly Rogers, is a teacher in Dorchester County, and I am the owner of Rogers Hauling and Tree Services, LLC. Molly and I are proud parents to three beautiful golden retrievers: Bailey, Finn-Finn, and Ruby. We absolutely love living in Briarwood.
I would also like to address the Briarwood Civic Association members regarding the recent changes in leadership. In addition to Mr. Weiss’s resignation, our former Webmaster, Mr. Ken Asaro, also submitted his resignation from his position, which included managing the community website.
I want to assure you that over the past month, Mrs. Angela Woodruff, BCA Secretary, and I, as your Executive Board, have taken the necessary steps to ensure that all legal requirements for our volunteer positions are fulfilled. We appreciate your patience as we work through this transition, and we are committed to keeping our community business running smoothly. Our next official community meeting will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 7:00PM at the Summerville, Church of Christ.
We are currently working with a new webmaster to update and maintain the community website. You may notice a temporary “under construction” status as we update the site and bring it up to date with necessary information in accordance with the BCA By-Laws.
Unfortunately, this transition has also uncovered an important issue. Since 2017, there have been no legal filings with the County Deed of Records regarding updates or changes that were previously voted on at HOA meetings. We are currently being advised by legal counsel and will continue to follow the legal By Laws as they were last recorded with the County Deed of Records in 2017, until we receive further guidance following any audits.
We are also receiving inquiries about the Covenants and Restrictions, particularly the items currently under review. I want to clarify that the entire document is being reviewed by legal counsel. Once this review is complete, the Covenants Committee of Residence will schedule a Community Town Hall to give everyone the opportunity to speak with the members of the Covenants Committee and understand how they arrived at the proposed changes. I can assure all BCA members that you have not missed any step in the process, and everything has been outlined on this website. All clear communication as to the next steps will be posted here as well.
Please be patient as we navigate these changes. It is important to remember that any changes to the community Covenants affect the entire neighborhood, not just one individual or household. No single person or board can make changes to the legal community Covenants alone. Our role is to listen to you- the people of Briarwood-and to ensure that the process is conducted legally and thoroughly.
Please note that any scheduling for upcoming Town Hall meetings and official votes or ballots will be delayed until all necessary legal obligations are fulfilled. We appreciate your understanding as we work through these important matters.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate these changes. We are committed to working together to ensure the future success of Briarwood.
Sincerely,
Clay Rogers
President, Briarwood Civic Association
